Fiona is currently working in the space of bushfire management, biodiversity and water resources. Fiona's research aims to provide better advice to decision makers on effective policy design and the factors driving community adoption of such policies.  In particular, Fiona is working on the NERP projects:

4.1   Trade-offs among social, economic and environmental values, and

5.7   Comparing the value for money from targeted, untargeted and landscape-scale approaches to biodiversity protection

She is also working on ...

I am currently on sabbatical leave from my permanent position in the Department of Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, visiting the School of Agricultural and Resource Economics as a Research Associate Professor, from August 2012 through May 2013.

I am an agricultural production economist, with research activities in a number of areas, including the economics of farming systems, risk and risk management, and productive efficiency in agriculture. Much of my current research at the University of Alberta deals with the economics of ecosystem service production in agriculture and in particular the impact of beneficial management practices and other types of environmental stewardship land use changes on financial performance of agri ...

Prof. Gene Likens

Web page

Prof Gene Likens is working closely with Prof David Lindenmayer on his project.  We are very honoured to have his assistance.

Prof Likens' research focuses on the ecology and biogeochemistry of forest and aquatic ecosystems, primarily through long-term studies at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest, in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. He was the co-founder of the Hubbard Brook Ecosystem Study in 1963, which has shed light on critical links between ecosystem function and land-use practices.

He and his colleagues were the first scientists to discover acid rain in North America and to document the link between the combustion of fossil fuels and an increase in the acidity of precipitation. His findings have influenced politicians and policy makers, guided and motivated scientific studies ...

Dr Melinda Moir

Web page

Melinda's research is focused primarily on invertebrates and their management. She has interests in coextinction (extinction of host-dependent taxa with or before their host species), restoration, threatened taxa, refugia, biogeography and taxonomy. Melinda is also interested in the consequences for Australia's invertebrates in a changing climate, and possible management strategies.

Dr Maksym Polyakov

Web page

Maksym received his doctorate degree in applied economics from Auburn University in 2004. Prior to coming to UWA, he had postdoctoral positions at Auburn University and NCSU studying anthropogenic effects on diversity of forest trees; impact of property tax policy, urbanization, and markets on land use change; and analysing harvest behaviour of private forest owners. His research interests include environmental and resource economics, land economics, biodiversity conservation, and spatially explicit bio-economic modelling.

He is interested in the integration of ecology and economics to better understand the choices humans make concerning natural resources and consequences of these choices for the environment. His main research topic is economics of biodiversity and focuses on prioritising investment in biodi ...
